Policies
on Guidance and Assistance to TKU International Students
1. &nbs=
p;
The Policies on Guidance and Assistance to TKU International Stud=
ents
(referred as “the Policies” thereinafter) are established based=
on Article
No. 15 of the “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaki=
ng
Studies in Taiwan” set up by the Ministry of Education in order to
facilitate international students’ studying and living in Tamkang
University.

TKU internati=
onal
students include overseas students pursuing a degree in 3. &nbs=
p;
Starting from the completion of
registration, TKU international students should abide by the related
regulations instituted by 4. &nbs=
p;
In each
academic year, the OIEIE would hold orientations for new international stud=
ents
during the first days of a new semester. In the orientations, representativ=
es
from related sections/units would introduce and elaborate on all related bu=
sinesses
that new international students should notice. Written materials and docume=
nts
would also be provided for reference. 5. &nbs=
p;
In each academic year, the OIEIE would initiate activities such as
cultural tours for international students, familiarizing them with the soci=
ety,
culture and environment of the Republic of China, 6. &nbs=
p;
A handbo=

for international students that provides information needed for studying and
living in the Republic of China, 7. &nbs=
p;
The OIEIE should assist international students in applying for
resident visas and ARCs (Alien Resident Certificate) while international
students must submit related documents to the OIEIE at least three weeks pr=
ior
to the expiration date of their visas or ARCs. International students would
have to be responsible for any result due to their failure to hand in docum=
ents
in time. 8. &nbs=

The OIEIE
should assist international students in joining Student Insurance and the
National Health Insurance programs (required for all international students
four months after their arrival in 9. &nbs=
p;
Academic
affairs including the selection, addition and withdrawal of courses for
international students should be guided and facilitated by their department=
s, and
assisted by the OIEIE as a supplementary role. 10.
Informat=
ion
regarding scholarships for international students must be posted at the web=
site
of the OIEIE, allowing students to prepare all the required documents and
submit their applications within two weeks after each semester begins. 11.
International students who have been studying in 12.
Affairs
regarding rewards, punishments, leave of absence, suspension/ discontinuati=
on
of school must be processed according to related regulations of the Univers=
ity. 13.
Special circumstances for international students should be handled
according to the following regulations: (1)
When international students are in need of counseling, the OIEIE
should refer them to the Counseling Section of the Office of Student Affairs
for professional counseling and guidance. (2)
In case of serious emergencies, international students should not=
ify
the military instructors in charge of their safety, as well as the OIEIE, f=
or
assistance. If necessary, the OIEIE may ask the military instructors and the
class tutors of the international students’ departments for further
assistance. (3)
In case of accidents, injuries or
deaths for international students, the Office of Military Education and
Training, the OIEIE, the departments and the class tutors of the internatio=
nal students
should jointly attend to the matters. (4)
Expenses in medical care and/or
nursing for international students should be paid by their Student Insuranc=
e. International
students should be responsible for any excess over the coverage of their
insurance. 14.
The Policies are approved at the University’s administrative
meetings, and are thus annunciated and in effect. Any revisions of the Poli=
cies
will follow the same processes as such.
