Course descriptions

 

A0409 French Translation I (2/2)  This course deals with the basic problems of translating Chinese into French through French chansons, actuality, and fables.

 

A0410 French Translation II (2/2)  This course deals with the intermediate problems of translating Chinese into French through the syntax and structure of the sentence and let students understand the differences between Chinese and French.

 

A0412 French Reading I (4/4)  This course deals with the elementary level of grammar and vocabulary of French and helps students improve their reading skills through the practice of reading in French.

 

A0413 French Reading II (4/4)  This course deals with the intermediate level of grammar and vocabulary of French and helps students improve their reading skills through the practice of reading in French.

 

A0423 History of French Literature II (2/2)  This course presents French literature by a systematical study of French writers, well-known philosophers, the history of France and the development of French literature.

 

A0424 Introduction to the French literature (2/0)  This course aims to provide the class with general overview for understanding French Literature in aspect of historical background and knowledge of key events/characters/terms, which had monumental impact in its transformation into modern theory in French Literature.

 

A0435 French Drama (2/2)  This course introduces the development of French drama, appreciation of individual works and practice in staging through the study of French drama.

 

A0439 French Conversation I (2/2)  This course aims to train students in speaking basic French through conversation practice and familiarize them with oral expressions through practical exercises.

 

A0440 French Conversation II (2/2)  This course aims to train students in speaking intermediate French through conversation practice and familiarize them with the oral expressions through practical exercises.

 

A0441 French Conversation III (2/2)  This course aims to train students in speaking advanced French through conversation practice and familiarize them with the oral expressions through practical exercises.

 

A0442 French Conversation IV (2/2)  This course aims to train students in speaking fluent French through conversation practice and familiarize them with the oral expressions through practical exercises.

 

A0445 French Language Laboratory I (1/1)  Teaching elementary French grammar, writing practice in short sentences and articles, and giving students the chance to learn the basic knowledge of linguistics, intonation and pronunciation.

 

A0446 French Language Laboratory II (1/1)  Teaching French grammar, writing practice in mid-length sentences and articles, and giving students the chance to learn advanced knowledge of linguistics, intonation and pronunciation.

 

A0448 French Phonetics (2/0)  This course aims to teach the students the basic phonetic theories, with emphasis on practical drills in pronunciation and intonation.

 

A0906 French Movies and Literature (2/0)  Focuses the interrelation between French movies and literature via French film masters' classical pieces. This course also helps students understand and analyze French movies from different perspectives.

 

A1006 French Grammar I (3/3)  This course deals with the development of fundamental French grammar and practices in writing short sentences through analysis of sentence structure.

 

A1050 History of French Literature I (2/2)  This course presents French literature by a systematic study of French writers, the history of France and French literary development.

 

A1055 French Grammar II (3/3)  This course deals with the development of intermediate French grammar and practices in writing long sentences through analysis of sentence structure.

 

A1056 French Composition I (2/2)  Teaching basic composition skills through the practice of composition texts. The student must learn how to make complete and logical sentences and composition.

 

A1057 French Composition II (2/2)  Teaching advanced composition skills through the practice of composition texts. The student must learn how to make complete and logical sentences and composition.

 

A1239 The history of art (2/0)  This course aims to introduce the history of art of Europe from the end of Western Roman Empire up to the Impressionnists.

 

A1434 French Grammar III (2/2)  This course deals with the development of advanced French grammar and during the class students need to practice the use of verbs in proper tense.

 

A1530 Theory and Practice of French Teaching (2/0)  This course aims to help students understand how to teach French through related topics, such as pronunciation, diction, grammatical rules, and French teaching methods.

 

A1545 Introduction to French-speaking countries (0/2)  This course aims to introduce “the origin of French language”, “French-speaking countries and literature”. The expansion (French), French-speaking countries and French in international organization, etc. Language cultural studies in French-speaking areas are all over the world.

 

A1853 Simultaneous interpretation (2/2)  This course consists of interpreting practices on various topics by small groups on the basis of actual ability ; starting from Chinese to French and move on to both directions. Theory, experiences sharing, corrections and advice will be given.

A0583 French commercial correspondence (2/0)  This course aims to help students gain a basic understanding of commercial French through texts , multimedia, commercial letters, and the Internet.

 

F0243 Computer and French learning (0/2)  This course introduces French Word 7.0 and the French Internet. It also familiarizes the students with some useful computer tools such as Excel, Web, etc.

 

F0110 Reading comprehension and Writing exercises (2/2)  This course aims to help students understand the whole meaning, grammar, and structure of an article by enhancing their reading skills in French.

 

A0429 Selected reading in French Literature (0/2)  A systematic study of French writers, with emphasis on individual works.

 

F0248 Commercial French Conversation (0/2)  This course introduces the basic knowledge of business and oral business practice in France.

 

F0247 Journalism in French (0/2)  This course includes extensive practice in newspaper, writing, radio, TV reporting, public relations, and advertising.

 

F0245 French Chanson and Culture (2/0)  This course introduces students the backgrounds, writers of the songs and their significance to the history of France.

 

F0341 Paris and modernity (2/0)  This course is structured to be an introduction to the development of Paris from the nineteenth century tradition to capitalist modernity. Discussion will be focused on the distinction between "modernization" and "modernity".

 

F0377 French history of twentyth century (2/0)  This course aims to introduce the formation, the special character and the spirit of contemporary France in 20th century, by the presentation of different aspects like political, economic, social and cultural activities, etc.

 

F0379 Contemporary French thoughts (2/0)  This course will be composed with French famous philosophers : Henri BERGSON, Jean-Paul SARTRE, Jean BEAUDRILLARD, Roland BARTHES, Georges BATAILLE, Michel FOUCAULT, Gilles DELEUZE.

 

F0646 French correspondence and composition (2/2)  This course aims to raise the capacity of composition by different forms of correspondence, such as personal, administrative and commercial correspondence, also emphasizing the cultural aspects of everyday life in France.
