Introduction to Tamkang Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

Origins

In order to promote the standard of academic research and effectively serve academic researchers and readers, this university originally published the Tamkang Journal, which ceased publication with its 36th issue; and it separately started publishing the Tamkang Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, which covers the same area of academic exchange. Here besides expressing our heartfelt gratitude to the contributors, readers and social thinkers who for so many years showed their concern and support for the Tamkang Journal, we would like to request their continued support for the Tamkang Journal of Humanities and Social Science.

Publication Objectives

As Tamkang University has been building and developing itself by “Seeking excellence and striding to the peak,” the scholarly publications of the various colleges and departments may well be called a dazzling array of beautiful jewels; their academic standard is already attested to in all circles. In the present 21st century, we once again issue a scholarly publication with a focus on “the humanities and social sciences” titled Tamkang Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences. Even with a comprehensive university that has its roots in a school featuring culture and foreign language, the denotation of the title and the academic orientation are different from the past.

The publication of the Tamkang Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences besides indicating our mission to aspire after high quality humanities and social sciences studies, and intellectuals, more importantly strives to provide an entirely new arena, which gives humanities scholars and social scientists of different disciplines a stimulating forum where they can mutually exchange views, inspect each other’s work, and compete with one another. It is hard for mortals not to have a so-called ‘blind spot’, and scholars in the humanities and social sciences are no exception to this observation. Using this forum, humble scholars can perhaps acquire the benefit of other’s advice, which may give their life’s work a broader, deeper boldness of vision.

Although this journal has “Tamkang” as part of its title, this forum is completely open to the public without discrimination.  We wholeheartedly welcome the works of scholars in the humanities and social sciences fields from anywhere that we may all participate in the great project to find the “truth”. This journal is founded upon a vast and profound threshold, and it is from this great point of cognition that we stride into this new century!
